I'll get right to the point. The Edelwiser Swing is going to make a lot of skiers happy. As the so-called intermediate entry, I was thinking I'd be overwhelming them after a few warm-up turns, but they were pleasantly holding an edge at the higher speeds, beyond the typical intermediate cruiser. Not a snappy high-performance carving feel but more like that favorite old living room chair, comfortable and familiar.
The best part is when I took them off piste into some loose fresh snow on top of old crust and ice, not where I'd normally be taking my 185cm Nordica GS's. The Swing's handled it flawlessly; I just kept making turns. Admittedly, the 162cm length helped a bit, but the wide-ish footprint is just right for the soft loose stuff. As a respected local alpine coach observed when I stopped to chat, the skis look "substantial". And they are. Deceptively so.
This ski is recommended to adventurous intermediates, and to experts who want to expend a little less energy while having just as much fun. Like others, I'm looking forward to testing the "speed" version.
